Did you guys know that the most recent version of sharks have fins that are kinda leg like and they like to walk up onto land?

  • hotchocolatenotsex

no way i must have missed an update!

  • keepcalmandcarriefischer

The Epaulette shark is only about 9 million years old as a species, making it the most recent branch in the shark family. And it is slowly but surely evolving into a land animal

I love to use my disability “as an excuse.” Fuck yeah my disability is an excuse. It’s the most valid excuse I have. I’m not helping you lift that box/etc because my disability would make it fucking painful. Not wanting to be in pain is a good enough reason. I’m not going to put myself in pain to comfort your sensibilities.

Yes I’m using my disability as an excuse because I refuse to hurt myself for you. If you’re mad about it you can cry! ❤️

    Happy disability pride month.

In honor of my chronic pain flareup that I could’ve avoided by asking my wife for help here’s your reminder to say no to stuff when it is safe to do so!! Ask for help!!

This month practice saying “I can’t do that. It would hurt me.” or “can I have help with (x)?” Start with a friend or family member who you feel comfortable asserting your boundaries with and keep saying no.

anon please! Why would they send jasper to school?! isn't just so extra risky? maybe they don't care about the students lives but any accident could expose their secret too.

This comes up a lot and I usually say like, yeah it doesn't really make sense but maybe it's part of his training to get used to blood and he does have Alice and Edward as early warning systems so maybe it's not as risky as it seems to us blah blah blah.

But now I'm thinking like . . . SM wrote the first book out of order, right? She wrote from the meadow to the end first. And in the end of the book, Jasper's with Alice and Bella on the run, and he shows up at the ballet studio and seemingly has no real problem with the blood at all. And he's also at prom, seemingly no problem.

Is it possible that SM didn't come up with the 'Jasper's like really bad around human blood?' stuff until later and THAT's the actual reason he's in school, because originally it wasn't a Thing, that he wasn't really any worse? And then she came up with that idea but didn't want to rewrite the stuff she already wrote so was like "sure whatever he goes to high school, it's fine, don't think about it too much."

The baby males will practice their tail display with little hatchling feathers! They also get 'top knots' which will develop until adult crests!

Two young peacock chicks facing each other. Their feathers are shades of brown, with their head and chest a lighter brown than their wings. Both are hold their tail feathers 'forward' to curve over their back, similar to how adult male peacocks display their tails, but their tail feathers are short and brown instead of large and colorful.ALT

Ive said this before but i rlly hope they improve upon the writing abt the Na'vi's relationships to other lifeforms, esp the fauna, in the next films. It was rly bothersome how little importance was given to creatures like the skimwing and and ilu and even the fish in the reef just bc they were implied to be less sapient than the tulkun. It rlly did feel like the whole "way of water" and idea of unity between Eywa's children was cheapened for the exotic flare but still the same hierarchal notions of "dominion" over the "natural world" and seperation of nature and people was superimposed onto what was supposed to be an alien culture that represented various indigenous wisdom abt the connectedness and sameness of all things.

I rlly didnt like Jake's Skimwing "taming" scene in AWOW bc it exemplified this anti-sameness view the most, and paralleled not only his iknimaya among the Omatikaya but of his domineering attitude toward the ikran ("your mine", "shut up and fly stright"). Jake was furious at embarassing himself in fromt of the (randomly) xenophobic Metkayina men, esp as the acclaimed Toruk Makto, but it also came off as frustration in not being able to naturally dominate a ferocious creature. Like he was upset that he couldnt take command over it. Cuz sure u need physical strength and iron will to position urself to make tsehaylu w a autonomous predator who uve evoked into fight mode. And ofc they had to learn to ride around the village and "be useful" (ok... lol). But we rlly just saw Jake being handed the creature w no information abt the creature's legacy, no myths abt their importance in the culture, and no info abt Jake's quotidian relationship to the Skimwing. It was just mostly "vehicle reserved for warriors". This could eveb be applied to the ilu too bc even tho we saw their personalities more, they were treated as loyal pets akin to water dogs more than individuals and ofc still used primarily as vehicles. The banshee.... goodness they felt like their faces were painted on. Never more expresive or sentient than airplanes.

I think theres so much more seriousness that can be applied to the spiritrual messages Cameron and the writers are trying to depict. The Na'vi clearly express their respects to other lifeforms beyond the sentient and sapient. So the creatures we see, many if whom yet to be named or described, can be more than props to the spectacle, and individuals in their own right while still serving the story, I think.

A watercolour and ink painting showing four portraits of queer couples kissing. The portraits are arranged like four panes of a window, with gold paint as a border around them and separating each portrait. Text in the very center reads “is this not holy, too?” The portraits show, in order, two white women kissing, while one smiles; two black men kissing tenderly; a black man and a white man kissing while both of them smile; and a black woman and a white woman kissing while smiling and laughing. Behind each couple are pale pastel colour washes - blue, green, purple, and red respectively. The artist’s signature reads hg 2022.ALT

sacrament - watercolour and ink on paper, 2022

I’ve been sitting on this piece for a while - it was painted last year while I was contemplating queer love, and the defiance that comes with it. It is not intended to be a religious piece, but rather one that seeks to find sacredness in acts of queer love.

This piece has also been purchased by one of my local museums for a collection of local queer art, which was a really neat experience! (And as such, I will not be selling prints etc)
